Non si può dire che gli ultimi mesi siano stati poco generosi nei confronti di chi patisce una certa nostalgia delle sonorità new wave made in eighties (vedere sotto la voce The Horrors o, per restare in Italia, procurarsi il fulminante esordio dei Buzz Aldrin). Per chi tuttavia non si fosse ancora ripreso dallo shock post-scioglimento delle Organ, dopo un ottimo EP (“Thieves”) messo su con le poche registrazioni d’archivio inedite, ecco che ci pensa la chitarrista Debora Cohen a lenire le sofferenze degli estimatori del fu combo canadese: pochissime le differenze tra il passato ed i nuovi pezzi interamente composti da Deb e dati alla luce a mezzo myspace dietro il nome di Lovers Love Haters.
Partendo dalle tematiche claustrofobiche delle sei tracce pubblicate fin ora, passando per la voce del tutto sovrapponibile a quella di Katie Sketch e per i fraseggi chitarristici à la Johnny Marr, e finendo con gli onnipresenti quanto ipnotici synth, ogni elemento pare voler rinverdire i fasti della vecchia formazione. Tutto ciò, da un punto di vista prettamente critico, potrebbe suonare come un punto a sfavore, ma chi scrive è tra i nostalgici delle Organ, quindi ben vengano questi sei brani e fanculo al punto di vista prettamente critico.
It’s impossible to state that last months have been ungenerous for people who miss those new wave sounds made in the Eighties (just take a look to The Horrors or, in Italy, listen to Buzz Aldrin’s fulminating debut). Anyway, for all those still under shock after the brakup of The Organ, following the good “Thieves” EP (filled up with old archive recordings), here’s the guitarist Debora Cohen who now attemps to shoothe the sufferings of the Canadian combo’s fans: there are very few differences between the past with The Organ and the new songs entirely composed by Deb and spread through myspace under the name Lovers Love Haters.
Starting with claustrophobic subjects of this six tracks EP, continuing with a voice very close to Katie Sketch’s one and with the guitar lines à la Johnny Marr, ending with omnipresent and hypnotic synths, every single ingredient seems to retrace the splendor of Cohen’s old band. From a critical point of view this could sound like a weak point, but the person who is writing is one of The Organ’s nostalgics, so welcome Lovers Love Haters and fuck the critical point of view.
